The Mazda MX-30 e-SKYACTIV R-EV – the perfect solution for flexible motoring

Mazda MX-30 e-SKYACTIV R-EV - Making range anxiety a thing of the past
The MAZDA MX-30 is already proving very popular with Stuarts
customers who are looking to combine the environmental and economical benefits
of an all-electric drive with the style and performance of a Mazda compact
crossover. However, depending on the type of journeys you undertake, and
perhaps your access to charging, driving a pure battery EV is not always
practical.
With the MX-30 e-SKYACTIV R-EV, Mazda can now offer a solution,
combining advanced EV technology, with the Mazda rotary engine. This is a
unique plug-in hybrid model that means you can have all the advantages of EV
technology, but without the problems of range and charging anxiety.
The MX-30 e-SKYACTIVE R-EV offers 85 km battery electric
driving range, which can often be sufficient for everyday needs. For longer
distances Mazda has developed a unique and ingenious solution, with the car
featuring a compact and light rotary engine generating additional power to extend
the driving range. The rotary engine, an innovation perfected by Mazda over
several decades, does not power the wheels as in a normal hybrid car, but is
used exclusively to generate extra power for the electric motor. This allows
the MX-30 e-SKYACTIVE R-EV to have a total driving range of around 640 km
without the need to charge or refuel, while also offering class leading
emission reduction.
The car offers excellent flexibility when it comes to
charging with both AC and DC options available. The battery can be fully
charged in as little as 25 minutes at a rapid DC charging station. The
combination of charging flexibility and supplementary power generation means
that the MX-30 e-SKYACTIVE R-EV can drive in pure EV mode for the vast majority
of journeys. Indeed, through its own analysis, Mazda has found that most
drivers average around 42 km per day, meaning that EV mode can be engaged all
the time.
When a longer distance has to be covered the newly developed
8C rotary engine provides the additional power required. Ultra compact and
efficient, this generation unit not only makes the car lighter in itself, but
also means a smaller lighter battery can be utilised, which is better for range
and better for the environment. An adjustable regenerative braking system also
captures braking energy and feeds this back into the electrical system for
added efficiency.
Of course, in its quest to make the MX-30 e-SKYACTIVE R-EV
both as environmentally friendly and as practical as possible, including many
recycled materials in the stylish interior, Mazda has not forgotten the driving
experience. The car features a level of driver engagement that most electric
vehicles cannot match with excellent steering feedback, precise handling and outstanding
acceleration and performance.
So if you are looking for the environmental, economical and
forward thinking benefits of an electric vehicle, but also need the flexibility
of the range offered by an internal combustion engine, then the MX-30
e-SKYACTIV R-EV can offer the perfect solution, all wrapped up in a package
that also delivers on Mazda style, ingenuity and cutting edge technology.
